WASTEWATER AND RECYCLED WATER SYSTEMS

Advanced Onsite Systems, Inc. provides engineering services for decentralized and onsite wastewater treatment, disposal, and recycling. Our projects are commonly located in California although we also serve other states. Our expertise in sustainability is well founded through groundbreaking work performed by the founder and president Barbara Bradley, PE.

We typically engineer small biomechanical treatment systems for wastewater flows from 3,000 to 100,000 gallons per day. Each type of project has special regulatory and technical challenges and site constraints that we have solved before. We bring that experience to you for the success of your project. Our clients are typically small wastewater plants owners, i.e., public facility owners, multi-family residential properties of all types, and commercial property owners such as business complexes, shopping centers, and restaurants. To learn more about our clients please click here.

We also support environmental planners, attorneys, and architects with our specialty technical expertise, such as expert witness, technical expertise for environmental assessments or any scale, green building systems, and redevelopment.

COMPLETE LIST OF SERVICES

Complete Engineering and Construction Documents

Detailed design is the heart of the engineering service and safeguards the owner’s interests. The signature designs produced by Advanced Onsite Systems leave little room for contractor misinterpretation due to the comprehensive level of detail provided in the drawings and specifications.

Permitting

All projects require permitting, a complicated and sometimes tricky process. Our vast permitting experience ranges from simple to complex permit applications prepared to meet requirements imposed by a variety of federal, state, and local agencies, typically for Waste Discharge Requirements and NPDES permits. We navigate the process for you, steering around minefields, and guiding the project through safe passage.

Feasibility Studies

For clients with more complex projects or for agencies that require it. We prepare comprehensive feasibility studies evaluating and recommending treatment and disposal system siting, diverse technologies, and conceptual designs of suitable options for your informed decision making. Evaluation criteria to help you address system reliability, cost, flexibility, level of controls and automation, construction challenges, space and labor requirements, sustainability, special engineering, and ease of permitting.

Technology Studies

For projects where most issues are pre-established but several technologies offer a variety benefits. We zero in on the best technology for the conditions by applying a defensible evaluation method, engineering calculations, and a pre-approved set of evaluation criteria that fit address the owner’s concerns and fit the project context.

Facility Siting

Sometimes a project’s biggest hurdle is facility siting. Advanced Onsite Systems will help you understand the issue as it pertains to permitting. We understand the importance of locating practical, restriction-free, and unobtrusive sites for unit processes and the disposal system.

Sustainability Analysis

For the Client dedicated to making a greener and more sustainable future. Independently or as part of a feasibility or technology study, we examine energy, chemical, and materials consumption; noise, odors, and visual aesthetics; present worth costs; water conservation and reuse opportunities; employment and cultural effects. We welcome integrated sustainability analysis with the client’s professional team for even greater benefits.

Facility Assessments

Is your existing system nearing the end of its useful life? We combine site evaluation, interviews with relevant parties, and records review with our many years of experience to assess a treatment and disposal system’s life expectancy, future costs, and capacity to keep up with changing regulations.

Site Assessments

Starting a new project means gathering the fundamental data that forms the basis of design. We conduct percolation testing; define the topography, soils, and groundwater, surface hydrology, and the effect of land uses and structures. All these and more factors into the local of treatment units and how treated effluent is disposed or recycled.

Construction Support

This often-overlooked task can help the owner avoid expensive mistakes made during construction and an under-performing system. Tracking down unapproved construction changes or errors after installation too often occurs with great difficulty and cost. For systems that function as intended, Advanced Onsite Systems is here to observe the installation, respond to the contractors questions, and confirm that the correct equipment, supplies, and methods are used in accordance with the approved construction drawings and specification.

System Start Up

A newly installed system must be checked thoroughly before operating. We participate with the contractor, suppliers, and service provider to obtain full performance of each unit process and of the system as a whole.

Troubleshooting

Having trouble with an existing system and need some help to figure it out? Call us when your existing system stops performing as intended. We help track down the causes, identifying fixes without replacement where possible. Our process, instrument, and controls engineering will steer the system back to the required performance.

Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manual

Your operator needs good tools to do the job right. The O&M manual is one of those tools that had better be good. A specialty of Advanced Onsite Systems, the O&M Manual is more than an assemblage of manufacturers’ installation and maintenance instructions. Our manuals integrate the parts, providing descriptions that educate the operator on making the system work as an integrated whole because the function of one part affects the performance of other parts. Our O&M manuals boost the operator’s understanding, which is essential for capable diagnosis and correction of malfunctions.
